Why HHA Exists

Medical Care
Can Change
Everything.

Too often, shelter animals with treatable conditions face uncertain futures simply because care is expensive. HHA exists to change that. We fund vital veterinary treatment, rehabilitation, supportive foster care, and adoption-focused services so animals at the Agoura Animal Care Center have a real chance to heal, recover, and go home.

We believe good medicine, compassionate care, and community support can rewrite an animal's future.

Medical Care Funding

We fund the treatment animals need to survive and recover.

HHA provides funding for essential veterinary care for animals at the Agoura Animal Care Center โ€” including exams, x-rays, surgeries, lab work, medications, and care for nursing mothers, orphaned litters, and other vulnerable animals. This is the foundation of our life-saving work.

Forever Young

Because age should never stand in the way of love.

Our Forever Young program funds diagnostic and remedial veterinary care for senior animals age 7 and older. Dedicated in honor of Matthew Young, this program rewrites the heartbreaking narrative older animals face in shelters โ€” being the last to find a home and the first to face euthanasia. By helping adopters understand each senior pet's health needs, we make it easier for older animals to be seen, chosen, and cherished.

Foster Care

Healing happens faster in a home.

HHA supports foster care for animals recovering from treatment, including post-surgical cases, neonatal kittens and puppies, motherless litters, and animals needing close monitoring outside the shelter environment. We fund the follow-up care, medications, and support that make foster healing possible.

Animal Transport

A path to treatment for animals who need a better chance.

Known as Raising the B.A.R. โ€” created in loving memory of Blake Anthony Rosen, who grew up at Agoura Animal Care Center where his mom Denise was Manager for 17 years โ€” this program supports staff-approved transfers of animals needing medical care from high-intake centers to Agoura, where they can receive treatment and improve their odds of adoption.

Education

Helping adopters say yes with confidence and clarity.

When an adopter chooses an HHA-funded animal, they receive direct guidance on that animal's treatment, ongoing needs, and full medical history. This education helps families make informed decisions โ€” and helps animals transition into prepared, loving homes.

Hospice

Comfort, dignity, and compassionate care to the very end.

For animals not yet ready to cross the rainbow bridge, HHA supports hospice care in loving foster homes. With palliative care and veterinary oversight, we help ensure these animals are safe, comfortable, and treated with dignity for whatever time they have left.

He Needed a Spinal Surgery.
HHA Said Yes.

"The vet said Charlie had maybe a 20% chance of walking again. HHA funded the surgery. Today he sprints to the door every time we come home."
โ€” The Anderson Family, Thousand Oaks

Charlie arrived at Agoura Animal Care Center with a suspected spinal injury that made it impossible for him to stand on his own. Without intervention, he faced an uncertain future. HHA stepped in immediately, funding a full neurological workup and the spinal surgery he needed. He spent eight weeks in foster care recovering โ€” and in that time, found the family who would make his recovery feel like a celebration every single day.

HHA funded: Neurological exam, spinal surgery, post-op medication, 8-week foster recovery Outcome: Full recovery. Thriving in a forever home with the Anderson family.
