Giving FAQs

Questions about giving

If your question is not here, please ask. A volunteer reads every message and we are always glad to help.

Veterinary care for the shelter animals at Agoura Animal Care Center. We fund the care and our veterinary partners provide the treatment. Depending on what an animal needs, that can mean an exam, diagnostics, medication, surgery, hospitalization, dental care, specialty treatment, urgent care, senior wellness care, follow-up treatment, or recovery support.

Care is funded animal by animal, for what that particular animal actually needs.

Most people give by card using the donation form on this page, which accepts all major credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. You can also give through PayPal or Venmo, send a check, or make any gift recurring.

Beyond that, the giving programs further down this page cover workplace giving and employer matching through Benevity and Goodstack, and everyday giving through Ralphs Community Rewards, iGive, Walmart Spark Good, Chewy Gives Back, GiftDrive, Give Lively, and Givebutter.

Yes, and where the option is offered you can choose weekly, monthly, or yearly giving.

Recurring gifts let us commit to a medical case without waiting to see what comes in that month, which matters when an animal needs care now rather than later.

Yes. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, EIN 95-4588697. We are a separate organization from the County shelter, we are 100% volunteer-run, and we receive no government funding. Charitable donations may be tax-deductible as allowed by law.

If you need our W-9, our IRS determination letter, a donation acknowledgment, or any other documentation, contact us and we will send it.

Yes. You will receive an acknowledgment for qualifying charitable gifts. If you need another copy, a receipt made out a particular way, our W-9, or IRS documentation for your records, contact us and we will take care of it.

Some purchases, such as raffle tickets, are not normally treated as charitable contributions. If you are not sure how something should be recorded, please ask.

Yes. Use Give in Honor or Memory on this page. You make the gift to Healthcare for Homeless Animals and write a personal message, and the person you are honoring, or whoever you choose, receives that message by email. Your donation receipt comes to you as usual.

If you would like help with the wording, or want the message to arrive on a particular day, just ask.

We would be honored to. Families sometimes ask that gifts go to shelter animals in memory of someone they love, and we can build a giving page with their photo, their story, and your message, with a direct link, ready to share at a memorial, at a celebration of life, or online.

We can do the same for a birthday, an anniversary, a wedding, or any occasion where you would rather the gifts went to animals who need care. Contact us and we’ll make something beautiful together.

You can name Healthcare for Homeless Animals as a beneficiary in your trust, will, retirement account, life insurance policy, or other estate plan. Your gift can be a specific amount, a percentage, or another asset.

To include us in a trust or will, your attorney or estate planner will typically need:

  • Legal name: Healthcare for Homeless Animals
  • EIN: 95-4588697
  • Our nonprofit and gift information

Please contact us for our W-9, IRS documentation, legal information, or anything your attorney, trustee, or financial advisor may need. We would be honored to help make your legacy gift easy to arrange.

Yes. Make it payable to Healthcare for Homeless Animals and mail it to P.O. Box 7401, Thousand Oaks, CA 91359. Please use this address rather than any shipping address.

Including your address and email lets us send you a thank you and your receipt.

Yes, and we love to find creative ways to build a partnership that works for everyone involved.

Sponsorships, event partnerships, workplace giving and employee matching, cause marketing, community campaigns, and team volunteer days are all open to us.

We also welcome in-kind support: products, services, gift cards, auction and raffle items, and gift bag donations.

Please reach out and we can tell you more, brainstorm and confirm current needs.

We provide a donation acknowledgment and any nonprofit documentation you need.

No. Agoura Animal Care Center is a Los Angeles County animal shelter, operated by Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control.

Healthcare for Homeless Animals is a separate, independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We do not operate the shelter, we are not a rescue, and we do not take in animals from the public.

We fund veterinary care for animals at Agoura Animal Care Center. Our veterinary partners provide the treatment.

Public shelters work within limited government budgets that have to cover the overall care and operation of the shelter and serve a great many animals. More extensive veterinary needs, such as diagnostics, surgery, hospitalization, specialty care, dental treatment, and longer-term medical support, can reach beyond what public funding covers.

Healthcare for Homeless Animals helps bridge that gap by funding additional veterinary care for animals at Agoura Animal Care Center. Our veterinary partners provide the treatment, and we cover the cost.

We are 100% volunteer-run and we receive no government funding, so this work runs entirely on individual donors, grants, fundraising events, sponsorships, community partners, and other charitable support. That support is what lets us keep saying yes when a shelter animal needs more care.

Start on the Our Animals page, where you can search by name or animal ID to read about animals whose veterinary care we have funded or are funding right now.

If you do not see the animal you are looking for, please contact us. We would love to tell you more about them, the care we have funded, and where they are in their journey.

Our volunteer team can help you with:

  • Learning more about the animal
  • Arranging a visit at Agoura Animal Care Center or, when appropriate, with their foster family
  • Introductions with your existing pets
  • Available medical history and records
  • Questions about the adoption process

Healthcare for Homeless Animals funds the veterinary care and our veterinary partners provide the treatment. All adoptions are completed through Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control, and every animal currently available at Agoura Animal Care Center can be viewed on the County website. Our volunteer team is glad to help you get to know the animal and navigate the process.

Absolutely, and some of the most useful help costs nothing. You can volunteer, bring in recyclables, foster through Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control, share adoptable animals, come to an event, or help with transport, storytelling, fundraising, partnerships, or operations.

Tell us what you enjoy doing and we will match you with something that suits you.

Follow us on social media to see our work and impact in action. Share, like, comment, and help us bring awareness to our mission and to animals in need of care and homes.

Our medical fosters are a vital part of helping shelter animals heal and recover outside the shelter. A safe home to rest in while treatment continues changes how that recovery goes, and it is one of the most valuable things anyone can offer these animals.

Before joining our Medical Foster Program you need to:

  • Be an approved, active foster with Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control. You can apply through the County here.
  • Live within 25 miles of Agoura Animal Care Center

County approval comes first, so we can only consider medical fosters who are already approved through Los Angeles County. Once you are approved, please contact us and we can help guide you through the next steps for our Medical Foster Program. Healthcare for Homeless Animals funds the veterinary care for animals in the program, and our veterinary partners provide the treatment.

If you are not yet an approved County foster, please contact us. We are happy to answer questions and help walk you through the application process.

Our team is always happy to hear from you and help. Please visit our contact page for more info on how to get in touch.
